What Is Lanefall TD?
The Genre
Lanefall TD, a line tower wars-style game, belongs to a unique and beloved genre of tower defense games born in the modding community. Unlike traditional tower defense where you place towers on a preset map, Lanefall TD is a competitive multiplayer game where 2 to 7 players each defend their own vertical "lane" against units sent by opponents. The key twist: sending units into an opponent's lane doesn't eliminate them from your game—instead, it permanently raises your income, giving you a powerful economic incentive to attack early and often.
This creates a delicate strategic balance. Do you prioritize building an impenetrable maze, or invest in your economy to overwhelm opponents with sheer volume of units? The genre rewards both playstyles, but pure defense without attacking eventually leaves you behind in income while opponents snowball their advantages.
The Lanefall TD Experience
Every match starts with open lanes and meaningful choices. You control one lane, building Melee and Ranged towers to shape a winding maze that lengthens the path units must travel. Your opponents build in parallel lanes, and any unit that escapes can carry pressure onward to the next defender.
The unit roster and specialist tower lines create direct counterplay. Fast swarms, durable tanks, support units, splash towers, slows, buff removal, and execution effects all change which maze and tower mix will hold. Reading what opponents are sending is as important as optimizing your own lane.
Every 10 seconds, the game pays out your accumulated income. The more units you've sent (and the longer they've been active in the pipeline), the higher your income. Use that gold to build towers for defense and send more units for offense. The game rewards aggressive, dynamic play: a player who sends early and often will outpace a purely defensive builder—but only if their opponent can't shut down the attack with smart maze design.
Multiplayer happens in real-time over WebSocket, with the server acting as a deterministic clock and relay for commands. Every client runs the same simulation tick-by-tick, ensuring perfect synchronization without the server simulating the game itself. Solo mode lets you practice against bots that make intelligent decisions about economy, mazing, and timing.
Why We Built Lanefall TD
We believe competitive tower defense should be easy to start and difficult to master. This independent game brings original mechanics, art, code, and visual themes together in a browser experience that works across desktop, tablet, and mobile.
Every match teaches something new about economy, tempo, counter-picks, pathing, and timing. Solo mode offers a place to experiment, while real-time lobbies turn those lessons into a direct contest against other players.
